Extremely useful for quick reference when students aren’t sure what terminology means. It’s faster and more fun than Google!

A great book, visually interesting and impressive for general terms. Another great Gavin Ambrose book! The most visually interesting dictionary ever. This is more likely to be used than any other by students. I love it.

It is perfect for the students I teach as it is easy to use, includes a lot of visuals and has short, bite-sized chunks of info. It doesn’t feel like an effort to use.

The Visual Dictionary of Graphic Design may be a petite publication, but it’s packed with lots of valuable information. Design gurus and students alike will enjoy clear definitions and ... visual examples of commonly misunderstood or misused design-related jargon. Great text for building or reviewing design basics, or for inspiration for new projects.

Easy to access for beginners, concise information, good for exam answers. Excellent colour examples, relevant and interesting.

All those very useful things that you need to show a student all gathered under one cover. Brilliant.

A thorough, refreshing text that effectively utilises new imagery to breathe fresh life into the subject. It’s great to see new examples of key works.

This is a great book for an intro-level graphic design course but also as an ongoing reference guide for graphic design students in their writing and critiquing, not to mention a wonderful visual resource.

This would be a wonderful addition to any graphic design library ... I like the small size. Makes it easy for students to carry in their backpaks for reference. It covers a broad range of terms that Graphic Design students need to know.

Gavin Ambrose is a practising graphic designer. His current commercial practice includes clients from the arts sector, publishers and advertising agencies. Paul Harris is a freelance writer and editor. His work has appeared extensively in magazines and journals on both sides of the Atlantic.
